Open institution
We had to build a school of the XXI century, as part of a sustainable development in a sensitive suburbs, and in a particularly heterogeneous and unstructured area, though the city center.
These issues led us to reflect on the symbolic function of school today, which must assert its role as an institution, while remaining an open vector.
The environmental approach, the analysis of exposure, prevailing winds and looking for free solar gains, led us to favor exposure to the classrooms and to split the program into two main entities lengthwise. These two buildings connected by two bridges formed, street side, the figure that we wanted to symbolize both the institution ( a door protected by a large overhang hall ) and the opening ( from the street, view extends to the bottom of the court). As for classrooms, the view of the cemetery has been blurred by a shading device, which provides more sun protection.
We wanted to extend the vegetation of the avenue Henri Barbusse to the heart of the project by planting many trees and hedges on two adjoining. This treatment accompanies the movements awnings requested program ( courtyard ) with a gesture "green", that complete green roofing.
