From 1973 to 2013
This building, with its rigorous layout, was delivered in 1973. Its elegant metal post and beam structure was flocked with asbestos. Rehabilitation work was undertaken in the early 2000s and then discontinued due to the extent of the asbestos removal required. In 2010, GDF SUEZ undertook a comprehensive site analysis and decided to maintain this real estate asset by wholesale renovation of the building after asbestos removal.
The resumption of the work was therefore entrusted to Phileas. The architects aim to transform the technical constraint into architectural added value. The Prime Contractor requires a fundamental shift in the direction of the group’s real estate.
Moreover, GDF SUEZ has decided to bring its building into line RT 2012 (thermal regulation) and to seek "BBC Non-Residential Building" (low energy use) certification by improving the building’s energy performance.
Convinced of the intrinsic architectural quality of the building, the architects create dialogue between technique and architecture. The project extends the qualities of the existing architecture by adding sunscreens on a glass facade. This includes a photovoltaic system and is provided with metal maintenance walkways. These elements are more than mere "environmental gimmicks", and merge with the building structure and the nature of the project.
